God Thoughts.
James Little Writes: Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis...
The English autumn is our season of remembrance. The tone is set at Harvest Festival Time,
when we not only look back on the past summer, but also look back on our lives and forward to
heaven.
The begining of November sees us commemorate All Saints, when we think of the diversity
of the people of God. This is followed closely by the Solemnity of All Souls, when we think
particularly of those whom we love but see no more.
Remembrance Sunday falls this year on Armistice Day. For us in Howden this year will have a
particular poignancy for us i as we add to the Town War Memorial the name of
Private Luke Simpson, late of the Yorkshire Regimet, who was killed on active service earlier
this year.
Advent Sunday, (2nd December), brings the season of Remembrance to a close aswe think
of the Day of Judgement and the end of all things.
Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis.....
James.
